Dust Collector Facts (2) Dust collection systems are a crucial component to a wide variety of industry's process. The technology and sophistication of dust collectors is always evolving. Aerodyne's Dust Collector Fact Book is an up to date guide on the different types of dust collectors out there, how they work, and what applications they are used for. A US facility that handles silica and polyolefin was tired of facing the steep prices that came with its baghouses in its dust collection system. The fiber dust mixture was binding the baghouses up at an accelerated rate and the facility was having to replace the bags multiple times a year. At $14,000 a year on bag replacement alone, the company was in need of a solution to this costly problem. The plant manager reached out to Aerodyne for a solution.

Aerodyne explained the numerous benefits of using a dust collector as a pre-filter for a baghouse. They suggested using a GPC-84 for the facility’s 16,000 ACFM airflow to help get 99% of the 20+ micron dust out of the airstream. This will decrease the dust loading on the bags of the baghouse and expand the bag life exponentially.

The GPC dust collector is a compact high efficiency cyclone dust collector. It has several distinct advantages over common high-efficiency cyclone dust collectors. The spiral inlet of the GPC directs the dirty gas stream toward the ground plate and hopper of the collector. Coupled with the compact size of the collectors, this gives the GPC the ability to be installed horizontally with virtually no effect on the collection efficiency.
